Rama Soeprapto is an Artistic Director for Art and Entertainment Events who has been actively involved in the performing arts, particularly drama and musical theatre, for many years. Born in Jakarta in 1966, he has worked on numerous performance projects both in Indonesia and internationally.
His international experience includes working as Assistant Director to Robert Wilson on the epic musical I La Galigo, which was performed in several countries around the world, as well as on the music theatre production The Temptation of Saint Anthony.
His extensive experience in the performing arts led him to present the Majestic Mask dance performance at the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, in 2012, in collaboration with Indonesian composer and ethnomusicologist Rahayu Supanggah.
In May 2013, Rama worked with dance maestro Tom Ibnur on Padusi, a dance legend presented in Jakarta. A month later, he created the musical drama Timun Mas, based on one of the most popular folktales from Central Java. For Rama, Timun Mas was the realization of a long-held dream, following his previous work on the musical drama Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, presented at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in 2003.
In the same year, Rama created Prahara Cinta, a sequel to the musical drama Badai Kasih, in collaboration with Perempuan Untuk Negeri (PUN).
Rama’s ability to coordinate the various elements of a production has been developed through years of education and professional experience. He began his studies at the Community College of Baltimore in the United States in 1985. From 1985 to 1990, he continued his education at Towson State University, majoring in Marketing and Performing Arts.
During his time at Towson State University, Rama was awarded the Dean of Performing Arts Scholarship and participated in the TSU Dance Company and the Leningrad State Conservatory student exchange program.
In addition to developing his knowledge of Marketing and Performing Arts, Rama further strengthened his professional skills by studying Film and Video Production at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Rama has also directed the musical drama Rasa, Caring from the Heart, which tells the stories of cancer survivors and explores themes of life struggles, love, friendship, and happiness. He has organized similar events through the Opera Jelajah Anak Indonesia (OJAI) studio.
Among his other activities, Rama was involved in the six-month Spice Route Program, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to help the Laskar Rempah community discover and recognize the diversity of spices found throughout Indonesia.
He was also involved in the musical drama performance Hai Pemuda, featuring, among others, Guruh Sukarnoputra, musician Candra Darusman, and members of the millennial generation.
Rama has served as a judge for Good Design Indonesia, organized by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.
His work also includes folklore storytelling performances such as Dara Petak & Dara Jingga in Dharmasraya, West Sumatra, and Sultan Thaha in Tebo, Jambi.
Internationally, he presented Hayati, a performance telling the story of Panji’s search for love, in Doha, Qatar.
Through his extensive experience working with artists, communities, and organizations, Rama has developed a growing awareness of the importance of sustainable living and environmental responsibility.
In November 2024, PT Pertamina (Persero) initiated Rama’s first sustainability-focused concept, the Green Bus Program (@greenbus.id).
